The Annunciation Church - "The Mother Church of Cleveland"

The Annunciation Church of Cleveland was officially incorporated on February 15, 1913.  "The Mother Church" gave birth to several daughter churches over the years, throughout the Greater Cleveland area:

Saints Constantine & Helen Cathedral

The first "daughter" church of Cleveland, Saints Constantine & Helen Cathedral of Cleveland Heights was established in the early 1950s, and officially incorporated on November 15, 1967.

St. Spyridon Church

The short-lived St. Spyridon Church, established in 1937, was a Greek Orthodox parish under the jurisdiction of the Antiochian Patriarchate, located on the northeast side of Cleveland.  The church's leader, Fr. Lambert Venoutsos, became recognized by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America in 1955 after merging St. Spyridon into the Annunciation Church.

Saint Demetrios Church

Saint Demetrios Church of Rocky River was established in 1960 and incorporated on November 15, 1967.

Saint Paul Church

The most recent ecclesiastical addition to Greater Cleveland's Hellenic community, Saint Paul Church of North Royalton was incorporated on May 1, 1966.

Do you have any memories of life from yesteryear in the Cleveland Greek Community?  Remember those halcyon days in Greek School, Sunday School, Choir, and the Philoptochos Society?  Or you 'oldies' who may recall the Sons & Daughters of Hellas, GOYA-precursor HOYL, church newspaper, drama groups, Greek societies (Sons of Pericles, Maids of Athens, AHEPA, Daughters of Penelope, Cretan, etc.).  Submit your stories and anecdotes from the early beginnings to today!  Your stories will be published in the forthcoming booklets for the respective reunions of these various organizations in 2012. (Also, if you are on Facebook, please visit our Facebook page to share your experiences on our Wall!)
